Creating a social media marketing strategy for your business is no small task.
But contrary to popular belief, it doesn't have to take hours to plan a social media strategy. In fact, you can make one in less than a day if you use your time wisely and perform ongoing
So in this article, we'll show you how to make an all star socials media marketing strategy for your business. We've broken it down into six sections and guide you step-by-step through each.
Sound good with you? Let's dive in!
1. Find your key audiences
Before you can build a social media strategy, you need to keep one important thing in mind: your audience.
Knowing your audience will help you determine what type of content to post, the networks to post to, and how you write and develop content.
Finding your audience is easier than you'd expect too. First, look at the people that already use your products and gauge their age, interests, location, and other important information.
Then, create a persona for each of these users. Each persona should include the user's age, their interests, what they want to purchase, and why they're searching.
Then, sit down and put yourselves in your persona's shoes. Do some research and find what types of content they want to see—for example, if you're marketing to Millennials, you'll want to focus on posting authentic content and working with influencers.
Take your time and take notes of your findings... then, it's time to move onto the next step!
2. Create accounts on social networks
Now, it's time to create your social network accounts—sounds easy, right?
It is, but you shouldn't just start creating random accounts.
Instead, go back to your personas and find the social networks that they're most active on... and the ones they're not.
You can find this data by searching for your searching around for age breakdowns of each social network. Hint: one of the best places to find these stars is Statista.
Then, pick the best social networks for your demographic and create accounts. Make sure to use a name thats close to your brand name and completely fill out your profiles with background images, profile pictures, and bios.
3. Look at your competitors for inspiration
But don't post anything just yet... you need to get some educated inspiration first.
Before you start posting to your social media accounts, take a look at what your competitors are doing.
Look at the type of content they're posting, their voice, and anything else you may deem notable. Keep note of these and use them as inspiration for your own products—after all, if they're successfully selling on social media, they're doing something right.
Look for the things that you don't like on your competitor's account. Put yourself in your personas' shoes and think of ways you can improve this on your own social media accounts.
Take good notes, and move onto the next step.
4. Plan content and make your first social media content calendar
Now for the fun part: let's get posting!
First, you should come up with some kind of social media content calendar. Plan out what types of content to post each day, and decide (realistically) how much effort you can put into your social media posts on a day-to-day basis.
For example, if you know you don't have time to make a video a week, consider scheduling one video per month. This will give you realistic expectations and ensures you can keep up with your social media content.
When writing content, make sure to keep step #1 in mind. Write content and share articles, videos, and other media that your audience will find interesting.
Don't be shy about sharing third-party content either. This will keep your audience engaged and shows that you're up-to-date with industry trends. Just make sure to use Social Report's Link Frame feature to brand it.
Make sure to pick a good social media scheduling tool, too
When creating a social media content calendar, make sure you're doing it with a proper social media scheduling tool. This will let you "set and forget" your social media posts—just write all your content on Monday and schedule them throughout the week.

5. Use data to tweak and refine your social media marketing strategy
Just because your plan is in action doesn't mean the work is done. Obviously, you'll need to keep writing new content, shooting new videos, and creating graphics, but on top of that, you need to track your growth.
Some metrics you'll want to track include your follower counts, how many interactions each post is getting, and—of course—social media's direct impact on your bottom line.
If you see that social media isn't growing as fast as you'd like or that your posts are getting no engagements, go back and reevaluate your content.
You may need to tweak what you're writing or otherwise improve your social media marketing strategy.
