Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and you know what that means... it's time to start preparing your Valentine's Day social media campaign!
Valentine's Day is one of the most popular social media holidays. After all, couples are shopping for gifts and expressing their love all over social media—and you need to be there too.
Oh, and if you needed any more convincing: the National Retail Federation expects consumers to spend a huge $19.6 billion on Valentine's Day related purchases this year. So if you want a piece of the pie, you need to get your Valentine's Day spirit on.
But we get it—building a Valentine's Day social media campaign from scratch is hard. So we're here to help: here we'll show you six awesome Valentine's Day social media campaigns your brand can use in the New Year.
Sound good? Let's check it out.
Host a Facebook or Instagram Live Event
Want to host a Valentine's Day event but don't have enough room in your office? No sweat: just host the event on Facebook or Instagram Live!
Some cool virtual events you can hold include Valentine's Day Q&A, behind-the-scenes tour of your company, or a live stream of a company event.
Bonus points if you can really tie Valentine's Day into the live stream. For example, hosting a live Q&A session with a dating specialist or a quirky candy hearts reading.
One great example of this is Dunkin' Donuts' Valentine's Day kitchen tour. The coffee and donut chain showed how they make their famous heart-shaped Valentine's Day donuts in the stream, creating hype around the product.
Whatever you do, just make sure that the live stream is on-brand. A dating expert Q&A may not be fit for Social Report, but it could be great for a chocolate company or an online dating service.
Give back to your audience with a giveaway
Holidays are perfect times to give back to your audience, and Valentine's Day is no exception. Consider running a sweepstakes, competition, or another type of giveaway for your audience. Just make sure it's Valentine's Day themed.
Doing this gives back to your audience and expands your reach. Bonus points if you give out your own product—for example, a restaurant may give out dinner for two or a complimentary bottle of wine.
Even the most unsuspecting brands can run Valentine's Day giveaways. Take camera bag Lowepro for example—in 2016, it gave away matching camera bags. The company grew its following over Valentine's Day by requiring entrants to follow them and retweet a message.
This gave Lowepro a direct return from its giveaway—it gained followers in its industry and expanded its social reach, all while giving back to their fans. It doesn't get much better than that!
Use Valentine's Day-style images and video
This is a simple one: use arrows, the color pink, candy hearts, and other Valentine's Day-esque imagery in your social media posts.
Seriously, simply posting a "Happy #ValentinesDay" post on your Instagram and Facebook can put your brand in front of new eyes and show that you're in the Valentine's Day spirit.
This works especially well if you don't have any existing Valentine's Day social media plans. It takes seconds to prepare but will leave a lasting impression on your audience.
Run targeted ads that share themselves
If you're marketing Valentine's Day products, don't forget to run a few targeted social media ads.
But don't fret, this isn't hard to do.
Target your ads to people most likely to make Valentine's Day purchases. Try targeting your products to people with specific relationship statuses and even test targeting different ads to men and women.
There are two benefits to properly targeting your ads: you increase the number of people that will click on your ads and increase the chance of people sharing your ad to their own Facebook feed.
One of our great example of this is Amazon.co.uk's 2013 Valentine's Day Facebook campaign. The cute, animal-inspired video ad was properly targeted and earned a whopping 2,800 shares.
Focus on singles too

Don't forget about your single audience this Valentine's Day.
Run special promotions for your single customers or encourage them to get out there and meet someone. But whatever you do, just don't alienate them with posts strictly focused on couples.
One way you can do this is by celebrating #SinglesAwarenessDay, a newly created holiday that takes place on February 15th. We've seen a number of companies run these campaigns, offering special deals and more.
Nothing holds a candle to being single. That's why we teamed up with @HomesickCandles to bring you our exclusive Single, Not Sorry candle. Being single never felt or smelled better. Click link to purchase. https://t.co/Qx0GgDoj6g— Tinder (@Tinder) February 1, 2019
One of our favorites is Tinder and Homesick Candle's joint 2019 Single Awareness Day campaign. The two companies teamed up to make special candles for Singles Awareness Day, encouraging their audiences to send one to a single friend.
Embrace interactivity this Valentine's Day. Whether this is creating an immersive virtual experience on your website, or just using interactive Instagram Stories stickers, adding a bit of interactivity can be a gamechanger for your Valentine's Day campaign.
Why is this? Simple: when your campaign is interactive, it gives your audience a reason to engage. Even something as simple as a poll will stop someone from blindly scrolling past your post.
One awesome example of this is Tiffany & Co's 2018 Tiffany Tattoo Shop campaign. This campaign let the brand's audience virtually "tattoo" themselves with Valentine's Day tattoos on Tiffany's website. People could then share the virtual tattoo on their social media, further spreading the word.
And there you have it: six Valentine's Day social media campaigns your customers will fall in love with. Use these tactics during the holiday, and you'll get your message in front of the right eyes during the holiday of love.
Now we'll pass the mic to you. How is your brand marketing on Valentine's Day? Drop a comment and let us know.
