Here's how to use Instagram Nametags to promote your business

Instagram Nametags are one of the best ways to promote your Instagram accounts in the real-world.

Added to Instagram earlier this year, Instagram Nametags are customized QR codes that—when scanned by the Instagram app—will redirect users to your Instagram profile.

These codes are often scanned from phone screens, but can also be printed out and scanned off of just about anything. And while these codes provide real opportunity in the marketing space, Instagram Nametags are still underused by much of the social media marketing community.

So in an effort to change that, we’ll show you four awesome ways to use your Instagram Nametag to market your Instagram account to your customers in this article. Anyone can use these tips: from creative consultants to restaurant owners.

So without further ado: let’s dive in.

But first, here’s how to find your Instagram Nametag

Finding your Instagram Nametag is simple. Just do the following:

Here's how to find your Instagram Nametag
  • Open the Instagram app on your smartphone and tap the profile button at the bottom, right-hand corner of the screen.
  • Tap the hamburger menu button at the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
  • Tap the Nametag button at the center of the menu, and your Instagram Nametag will appear in the center of the screen.

You can customize you Instagram Nametag in this screen too. Tap the background to change your background color, or tap the color icon at the top of the screen and you can change your background to an emoji.

If you're not a fan of the included backgrounds, take a screenshot and crop out the background. Just make sure that your account name and the Instagram logo are visible, and it will scan without issue.

How to scan an Instagram Nametag

Scanning an Instagram Nametag is just as simple: just open the Instagram app, tap the camera icon at the upper left-hand side of the window, and scan the code with your camera. You'll then be automatically redirected to the corresponding Instagram page.

It's as easy as that.

Promoting your Instagram Nametag

So, now that you know how to find your Instagram name tags, let's discuss how to promote them. Like discussed earlier, we'll give you a good mixture of suggestions below, so anyone can use them—regardless of your industry or line of work.

On table drops and menus at restaurants and cafes

Promoting a restaurant, cafe, or coffee shop? Print your Instagram Nametag on your table drops or menus. Make sure to include a call-to-action that encourages your customers to follow you on Instagram, and watch your follower count grow.

Bonus points if you give your audience a reason to follow you. You can promise exclusive deals on your Instagram Story, or give a cup of coffee in exchange for a follow. It's up to you, but make sure you follow through on your promise!

Add your Nametag to your business cards

Are you a photographer, graphic designer, or other creative that showcases work on Instagram? Try adding your Nametag to your business cards.

This gives prospective clients a quick-and-easy way to find your work, and will no doubt give you a healthy stream of followers.

This also works for social media managers and marketers: putting your Instagram Nametag on your business card shows that you're on top of social media trends, making clients more likely to work with you.

Or, use them as a digital business card

Likewise, creatives can use Instagram Nametags as a digital business card at trade shows and networking events—just have the person you're talking to scan your Instagram code.

Before doing this though, make sure you have your account set as an Instagram Business Profile. This will let you put a phone number and email address in your profile, making it easy for new business prospects to contact you outside the network.

Add your Instagram Nametag to your website

Taking a step back from the physical world, consider putting your Instagram Nametag somewhere on your website.

This can be in a pop-up window or somewhere in the site's sidebar—just make sure that the Nametag only shows on the desktop version of your website. Remember, your audience will be scanning it from their smartphone.

Bottom line

And there you have it: how to promote your Instagram Nametag for more followers.

As you can see, Instagram Nametags are a great way for brick-and-mortar companies to promote their Instagram presence in front of their existing audience. But now we want to hear from you: does your company use Instagram Nametags to promote its social presence?
