If you have a child in his or her early teens (or possibly earlier), chances are they're on social media. Children and teens are now more active than ever on social media, making it easier for them to connect with friends, family, and classmates 24/7.
But that's not always a good thing. Kids are especially susceptible to cyberbullying or accidentally being in touch with predators online. And while shutting kids off from social media isn't the answer, monitoring your child's social media is important to ensure their safety.
In this article, we'll show you how to setup child moderation on Social Report. This isn't the sole purpose of our software, but is just one of the many ways that you can configure Social Report to fit your needs.

What should I monitor?
You should be on top of your child's social media posting and direct messages. Specifically, make sure you monitor the comments they're receiving on their social profiles; for example, keep an eye on their Facebook photos to make sure they're not being bullied.
Social Report can make this easier with Social Inbox. This feature lets you view all of your social media engagement at once: everything from posts from your social accounts to inbound DM's and comments.
Additionally, you can set our Social Inbox up to automatically email you when it sees activity with specified criteria. For example, you can setup your Social Inbox to email you when it see profanity or hurtful words in a message.
Setting up child moderation in Social Report
Setting up child moderation in Social Report is simple. First off, create a new project and give it a name. You may want to label it your child's name or "Child Moderation" so you don't get it confused with a client project.
Add your child's social accounts to Social Report
Now, add your child's social media accounts to the project. Do this by:
1. Click the Settings tab at the top of the Social Report window and click Profiles
2. Click Connect Accounts at the upper right-hand corner of the window
3. Connect all of your child's accounts to Social Report
And there you have it: your child's accounts are connected to Social Report.
Using the Social Inbox to monitor your child's social media
Now, click into the Inbox tab at the top of the screen. You'll see all of your child's social activity and inbound messages and comments at the center of the screen. However, you may want to filter this information down so you don't see everything and only inbound messages.
Here's how to filter your Social Inbox in Social Report:
1. Click the Filter button at the top of the screen
2. Click Custom Filters from the drop-down menu
3. Select what you want to monitor. For example, Facebook posts, Twitter DMs, etc.
4. Click Apply filter
Your Social Inbox will now be limited to the filter you just created, making it a more effective way to monitor your child's social media.
Notifications for all new @mentions on Twitter
We also offer email notifications that ping you every time someone @replies to your child on their Twitter account.
Just click the Bell button at the upper right-hand corner of the screen and select what Twitter notifications you'd like in your inbox. We recommend turning on mentions, so you can see all inbound activity on your child's Twitter account in your inbox. You can do this by clicking Mentions next to your child's Twitter account.
