Link shortening historically was necessary to make posts shorter as some networks, particularly Twitter, were counting the length of the link against your total tweet length. Today, this is no longer the case but we still shorten links to give our users powerful features and more detailed reporting.
Link Shortening Options
Option 1. Using the system default link shortener
By default, Social Report's link shortener is qoo.ly. It is automatically enabled as soon as you create an account with us.
Option 2. Using your own domain for link shortener
You have the option to use your own custom domain (vanity URLs). It is available as part of our white labeling services. If you're interested, please contact support.
Advantages and features of using Options 1 and 2:
- Link frames - adds a call to action to every link you share.
- Performance tracking - lets you know how many social interactions actually lead to sales on your website (clicks and conversions).
- Link preview modification for Facebook - allows you to customize link previews and change the image, title or description of a post.
WARNING: While it is possible to replace and even turn off link shortening, keep in mind that doing so will disable several features such as:
- Link frames
- Conversion Tracking (click tracking will still be available)
- Link preview modification
Option 3. Using an external link shortener
However, if you still wish to use an external shortener account such as bit.ly, you may do so by connecting it to your project.
Enabling link shortener:
To select the link shortener to use, go to Settings > Projects > Modify Project Settings
Select the link shortener from the dropdown and click Save:
Turning off link shortener:
In those rare circumstances when disabling link shortening is required, you may do so by following the steps below.
1. Content group level
a. When scheduling a post: The option to disable link shortening will show after composing your message (Step 4 of 5).
b. From content groups: Go to Publishing > Select the Content Group > Click the Settings icon under Target Profiles.
Select the target profiles and click continue, you will now see the option to disable link shortening:
2. Project level

Note that you may not enable link shortener at content group level once you have disabled it at project level.
